Petershill striker Chris Hall has looked forward to going up against Irvine Meadow ever since the season got underway.

But he’s now gutted that their Super First Division locking of horns is taking place tomorrow.

The highly-regarded frontman spent two injury-riddled seasons at Meadow Park and knows the Ayrshire club’s supporters never saw the best of him, so he has been eagerly awaiting the chance to show his true qualities .

But he is facing up to the prospect of being denied his opportunity after only flying back from a ten-day holiday break in Tenerife late on Tuesday night.

Chrissy manfully trained alongside his team-mates less than 24 hours later in attempting to prove his readiness for the fray to Peasy gaffers Willie Patterson and Paul Kelly.

However, he is not feeling confident about getting the nod for the New Petershill Park clash.

He said: "I’ve missed three sessions as well as last Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Kello Rovers so I can hardly expect to walk straight back into the team.

“We started with a twin pairing up front of Scott McManus and Jason Hardie before Gary Hynes came off the bench to score our winning goal so I see myself as being at the back of the pecking order for a jersey.

“I did score a special goal in my last outing for the club against Shettleston and not just because it was my only goal of the season to date.

“Why I’m going through this relative dry spell in front of goal is a bit of a puzzler for myself as I’m happy with my overall game as well as the job I’m doing for the team and so are the managers but strikers tend to be judged on their goals return and I would love to put a few more notches on my belt.

“Deep down, I realise all I’m missing is a few breaks of the ball but I’d love for this lean spell to come to an end soon and I can think of no better time than against Medda tomorrow.”

Hall came up against his former team in the Super First Division last season when an 0-0 draw between the clubs down in Ayrshire was followed by Petershill coming out on top by a 2-0 scoreline in the return meeting.

Chrissy added: "Medda had nothing to play for in the second game whereas we were still battling for promotion so you cannot read too much into the result.

“But it will be an entirely different matter tomorrow as both teams are able to claim 100 per cent winning league records to date so we will not be holding back in looking to lay down a marker for our title aspirations.

“I like to keep an eye on developments at both my former clubs, Ashfield and Irvine Meadow so I’m aware it’s practically a whole new team out on the pitch as well as in the dugout so the only familiar faces will be that of the Medda supporters.

“ From the results I’ve seen so far, Eddie McTernan and Daniel Mackay have been banging in the goals so we’ll need to be on our guard against them to have any chance of picking up the points on offer.”

Experienced campaigner Hall is not one for making predictions but he does consider the other three Super First sides boasting two wins from two starts - Cambuslang Rangers, Darvel and Renfrew - to figure in any title race.

He added: "Rutherglen Glencairn’s results up to now have been a bit of a surprise after they just missed out on promotion last time and I had them earmarked as one of the potential champions.

“They have a derby showdown against Cambuslang and really have to put points on the board or risk having to play catch up throughout the winter months because I don’t see Renfrew slipping up at home to Kello Rovers while home advantage can help Darvel get the better of Cumbernauld United.”

Irvine Meadows articulate young manager Ross Wilson concurs on the title threat posed by the unbeaten teams however he believes relegated Super Premier duo Largs Thistle and Troon might also be in the running come next May.

He said: "I believe this is going to be a league where a lot of points are going to be dropped and I’m happy to be sitting with six from two games even though my players have been nowhere near their best so far.

“Indeed the Shettleston team we beat last Monday night have good cause to feel aggrieved at not taking anything from the game.

“Petershill possess a vastly experienced management team and their playing squad has plenty of guys whom have been over the course before and know what it takes to finish top of the pile .

“Players of the pedigree of Chris Wilson , Liam Finnigan , Scott McManus and of course Chrissy Hall speak volumes for the quality in their ranks and there’s also Jordan Murch, an outstanding and tenacious midfielder whom I know only too well from having played in the same school team and growing up together with the same group of friends.

“I would rate Petershill as title favourites so taking them on at their place is a massive test for us but the 90 minutes is not a season definer when you think there’s still a lot of football to be played after Saturday.”

Medda boss Wilson turned his attention to this week’s announcement from his club that centreback Andrew Strachan was on the open to transfer list.

He said , “Andrew is a player who was here when I arrived as manager and I was more than happy to keep him as part of our squad but he came to me recently to say he wasn’t enjoying things and I just don’t see the point of holding onto an unhappy player.”
