Scottish football could be in line for a revolutionary shake-up after junior clubs voted in favour of proposals to participate in the senior set-up en masse.

Asked whether they should join ‘the current pyramid system’, a majority of members of the Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) voted in favour.

With just four failing to join the ballot, 99 clubs voted yes and 55 came down against the switch.

Association secretary Tom Johnston has already written to stand-in Scottish FA chief executive Andrew McKinlay to inform the governing body of the vote and an extraordinary general meeting will now be scheduled to discuss the issue further.

It is expected the SJFA, which is already an ‘affiliated national association’ of the SFA and has its offices at Hampden, could now look to join the pyramid as of the end of next season.
