CAMBUSLANG Rangers assistant manager Jimmy Kerr says he is confident his side can keep their Super First Division title hopes alive with a win over Petershill.

The two teams meet in a top-of-the-table clash tomorrow with The Lang 13 points behind their opponents – albeit with three games in hand.

And Kerr knows three points are a must if his side have any hopes of clinching the title.

“I think if Petershill beat us they look as if they’ll win the league. However we’ve got to be confident we can get a result on Wednesday night. They’re the favourites.”

The sides last met in March where they played out a tightly contested 1-1 draw. It was a match that saw Cambuslang finish with 10 men.

"We played up at their patch and it was a pretty even before we got a man sent off," said Kerr.

“I’m still pretty confident we can win the game but we’re under no illusions.

“You don’t win the amount of games they’ve won this year in the league and not be a good side, so we know they're good. We’ll see what happens, but it’s going to be difficult.”

When asked whether his approach changes ahead of a table-topping clash, Kerr said: “The preparation from the managing side won’t be any different.

“When you play the better teams you get a wee buzz – I know I did when I was a player.

“Petershill are the biggest team in the league, we’re looking forward to it and I’m sure they will be too.”

These two sides may be the favourites for the league crown, but Kerr doesn’t see it that way.

“People are saying it’s a two-horse race but it certainly isn’t," he added.

“As the weeks go by the teams get less but there’s still a good few teams on a lot of good runs. Irvine Meadow came out the pack, they’re on a great run.”

The Wee Gers warmed-up for the Petershill game with a 15-0 demolition of Newmains in the Central League Cup at the weekend.

But Kerr was quick to play down their crushing victory

“It’s got absolutely no bearing on what we do on Wednesday night," he insisted.

“We know we’ve got players to come back in and Petershill have done the same thing – they’ll have players who weren’t playing Saturday who will come back in on Wednesday.

“We’re under no illusions about the task at hand.”
