Pollok are thought to be on the verge of signing wing ace Adam Strachan.

The former Partick Thistle signing trained with the Newlandsfield club on Monday night with a view of putting pen to paper ahead of this week's trip to face Cumnock in a crucial Super Premier Division contest.

Lok manager Tony McInally and 27-year-old Strachan could not be contacted to confirm this, however sources reckon the signing will go ahead with the Junior transfer deadline looming large next week.

The player was released by previous employers Clydebank.

Strachan has trained at Blantyre Vics recently and impressed as a trialist in last weekend's 4-0 triumph over Wishaw.

Davie Kirkwood (2), Craig Smith and Alex Amos netted the goals, but Strachan was at the heart of every Vics attacking move according to Castle Park boss David Greig.

He said: "Adam has been at this club for the past four weeks and has shown himself to be a committed professional who keeps his head down and mixes well with the other players in the dressing room.

"He has come across as someone who is an outstanding talent with a great attitude. He hasn't trained with us this week because of Pollok's interest and I told Tony he would be nuts not to sign the lad.

"The opportunity to sign a player of his ilk for peanuts is too good to turn down as he could mean the difference between relegation and staying up."

Greig is resigned to go into this week's Second Division contest away to an improving Port Glasgow without Strachan, however he considers himself blessed with replacement options.

He said: "Adam was good to his word in promising to play a game as cover for the injured Stuart Mills.

"He has bought us time to get Gordon Douchess back in along with Alan Christie, who was Blantyre's top scorer last season.

"Factor in Paul Burns returning between the sticks now that his suspension is over and we are probably in the best shape team-wise that we have been in for months.

"Only Paul Hanlon is a doubt after tweaking a hamstring in training, however we will give him every chance of declaring himself fit.

"Port's results are on the up since bringing in big Abu Mansare from St Anthony's, while Scott Nugent is a scoring threat so we will need to be at our best."

One of Strachan's former teams, Irvine Meadow, will be among the names going into the hat when the draw takes place tonight for the Scottish Junior Cup semi-finals.

There remains an outside chance of there being an all-West Region last four with Glenafton and Hurlford United already through to the penultimate stage, with Medda and Whitletts Vics still in contention to join them.

With the semi-final ties scheduled to be played on a home-and-away basis over the weekends of April 12/13 and April 19/20, SJFA chiefs are to go ahead with the draw on Central FM around 6.30pm tonight.

The full list of teams in the draw are: Hurlford, Glenafton, Camelon or Whitletts Vics and Irvine Meadow or Bo'ness United.

Ayrshire District League outfit Whitletts will face a Camelon side reeling after the shock resignation of Carmuirs Park boss Danny Smith.

Smith will take charge of the Mariners for the last time on Saturday after agreeing to take up the manager's post at Linlithgow Rose where he spent more than 10 years as a player.
