CHRIS STRAIN claims he will take no extra satisfaction if his Ardrossan Winton Rovers side beat Irvine Meadow in tomorrow night's New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup quarter- final tie.

He could be forgiven if that was the case, however, given his somewhat acrimonious departure in 2013 which ended an eight-year managerial tenure during which he guided Meadow to an impressive 16 trophies - including three Super Premier Championships and two New Coin Cup triumphs.

The Winton Park clash marks the first coming together of Strain and loyal assistants John McColl and George Watt with their former club, but the team boss insists it will not be a grudge match.

He said: "I look upon it as just another game and will be urging everyone in our dressing room to be thinking along the same lines.

"Medda are another big-name cup opponent - just like Auchinleck and Glenafton - who we knocked out in earlier rounds, and our approach has been identical to that deployed before those games.

"We've a definite game plan in mind after watching them in action recently, however implementing it could prove a lot more difficult as we are fast running out of players and the likelihood is we will have to bring in some local amateurs."

Strain will be without top scorer Ryan Caddis, who is suspended, striker Larry McMahon is cup-tied, while back-up goalkeeper Kenny Pollok has work commitments.

On top of that, he has a number of injury concerns after the weekend Evening Times Champions' Cup defeat by Rossvale.

Full-back Billy Gilmour was an unused substitute after failing to recover from a long-standing ankle problem, while experienced midfielder John Johnston and youngster Jordan Cairnie picked up knocks and are rated extremely doubtful.

Strain added: "My biggest worry is young Cairnie, who has been absolutely outstanding at the heart of our defence since arriving on loan from Morton, and we didn't look as solid at the back when he was forced to come off injured on Saturday.

"However, Michael Wardrope is back between the posts after serving a one-match ban and I'm pretty sure he and Gareth Turner will be wanting to do well against their old club, even though Michael Hughes is the only former team-mate still at the Medda ... and he only returned last month."

Visiting gaffer Stevie Rankin opting for the same line-up that emerged 2-1 West Cup winners over Shotts in his side's last outing would see Hughes yet again team up with Paul Maxwell in a physically powerful forward line pairing.

In the remaining last-eight ties, Ayrshire District League runners-up Kilwinning Rangers appear to have too much in their Abbey Park locker for Benburb, while Pollok - even without cup-tied pair Mark McLennan and Robbie Winters - should clinch a semi- final place with a win over Wishaw at the Beltane.

Not so easy to call is the Dunterlie head-to-head of Arthurlie and Cumbernauld United, two sides that have gone off the boil in recent weeks.

In vital Stagecoach League matches, Rob Roy must overcome relegation-threatened Greenock to prevent Pollok being crowned Super First Division champions, while the other end of the table has Yoker seeking a win at home to bottom side Thorniewood to lift themselves clear of the drop zone.

Blantyre Vics will not find it easy to close the gap on Central First Division leaders Bellshill when heading to face struggling Lanark - needing points to boost their own survival hopes, and the one Second Division contest has Johnstone Burgh looking to secure promotion with a Keanie Park victory over Port Glasgow.
