West Region titans Irvine Meadow and Auchinleck Talbot were pitted against each other in the pick of the Scottish Junior Cup third-round ties pulled from the hat yesterday.

The head-to-head between the Super Premier Division leaders and Talbot - winners of the cup a record 10 times - is likely to result in the biggest crowd of the season at Meadow Park.

Medda boss Stevie Rankin said: "This is not one we would have picked for ourselves so early in the competition but I'm pretty sure Talbot boss Tommy Sloan will be making the very same noises.

"The teams wearing the biggest smiles after the draw are the likes of Hurlford, Linlithgow Rose, and Bo'ness United who will delight in one of us making a fast exit from the competition. But it is what it is and we just need to play the cards dealt to us."

The clash in just over a fortnight's time will mark the first return to his former club for Talbot stopper Mark Campbell.

And Medda assistant boss Murdie McKinnon believes the experienced centre-back will relish the occasion.

He said: "Sparky [Campbell]probably feels he should have played more games than he did under Stevie and will have a point to prove. But the same can be said of our own Willie Sawyers as he was rejected after playing trial games for Auchinleck.

"All these ingredients add to the tasty mix for what is shaping up as a showpiece of a game for Junior football."

Another all-Super Premier Division showdown sees 2011 Cup winners Shotts Bon Accord welcoming reigning holders Hurlford United to Hannah Park.

Shotts gaffer Tam McDonald said: "It's always a challenge to try and knock out the cup holders and our players will be up for having a go ."

Last term's beaten finalists Glenafton are on the road to face Rob Roy at their adopted Guys Meadow home while Shettleston host Neilston.

There won't be an inch conceded in the meeting of rivals Dunipace and Kilsyth Rangers, while Beith awaiting the visit of Kilwinning Rangers makes for a decent Ayrshire contest.

Largs Thistle's trip to face Johnstone Burgh looks likely to be made without striking ace James "Slick" Marks, after he was placed on the Barrfields "open to transfer" list last night along with defender Barry McLaughlin.

Clydebank have beaten off a number of clubs to snap up midfielder Phil Barclay, recently released by Kilbirnie Ladeside.
