Arthurlie coach Billy Peacock reckons his side are capable of pulling off a second successive great escape.

The Barrhead men are currently joint bottom of the Superleague Premier alongside Largs Thistle - with Junior giants Pollok also firmly in the relegation mix.

Glenafton did themselves a power of good by beating Rob Roy 2-1 at the weekend, but Peacock - formerly a manager at Renfrew - believes all four sides are in the survival dogfight.

And he believes Lie might just have the upper hand, as they have been down this road before.

He told SportTimes: "We looked down and out at one point last season but put together a superb run and ended the season sixth-top.

"I'm not suggesting for a moment that will happen again but we're in the thick of it and once more we need to come up with something special.

"I believe we have the players at the club that can get us out of this predicament but we have been riddled with inconsistency this season - it has killed us so far.

"And despite being joint bottom of the league, the mood in the camp is first class. No one at this club is filled with gloom, and that includes the players. They are up for the fight."

But being up for the fight is one thing, and getting the chance to put points on the board is another.

Since the turn of the year, the former Scottish Cup winners have managed just three league games, and we're entering the second week in April.

The weather has had a big impact on the Junior calendar since the turn of the year, although Arthurlie have had an extra issue to contend with.

Peacock explained: "One part of Dunterlie Park in particular is giving us a real cause for concern. As soon there is heavy rain you know it is going to be waterlogged.

"It is at the end of the ground near the dressing rooms and there is a burn that runs under that section of the park. It is really affecting the drainage and there are plans to excavate it.

"We were all desperate for Saturday's game against Pollok to be on but once again we were left frustrated."

Lie have just five games left to save their season, and Peacock knows it will be tough heading down to Ayrshire to play Cumnock Hurlford and Glenafton.

But with Pollok idle, a win at Townhead Park would see the Barrhead side move above their Newlandsfield rivals.

He said: "I don't know what bigger an incentive the players could have.

"Our aim is to finish fourth- bottom but that has been made that bit tougher after Glenafton's win at the weekend.

"One thing is for sure, though, we haven't given up the fight - and we never will."

Elsewhere in the top flight, Auchinleck Talbot eased to a 3-0 win over bottom side Largs.

Goals by midfield trio Bryan Young, Graham Wilson and Colin Spence helped the Ayrshire giants move six points clear of nearest challengers Irvine Meadow, whose game against Clydebank at Meadow Park was called off.

It's now a two-horse race for the top-flight title with both Talbot and Medda having four games left, although Hurlford, who still have 10 fixtures to play, can still arithmetically overhaul Talbot.

Hurlford meet Medda in one of this weekend's Scottish Cup semi-finals.
