Ayrshire Junior football's Ardagh Glass Sectional League Cup experienced a double turn-up for the books last night as Irvine Meadow and Hurlford United tumbled out at the quarter-final stage.
Kilbirnie dealt a knockout blow to Medda at Valefield thanks to a Ryan Borris first-half goal and a second-half penalty-kick conversion by Chris Malone after the impressive Borris was brought down in the box.
Marring a memorable night for the Blasties was a horrific broken arm injury sustained by full-back Chris Wilson in making a tackle on Gary McCann which earned him a red card.
An arguably bigger shock was recorded by Largs in doling out a 4-1 defeat to Hurlford at Blair Park where Graham Muir and James Marks netted doubles to have Theesel leading 4-0 before Stewart Kean bagged a late consolation.
Kilbirnie are at home to Glenafton in tomorrow night's semi-final while Largs host Auchinleck.
