Vale of Clyde's 1-0 win against league leaders Renfrew last week has to be up there among the best Central First Division results of the season.

Now ambitious Tin Pail boss Ian Currie wants his players to shake off their tag as the "great unpredictables" when St Anthony's visit Fullarton Park tomorrow.

Currie insists the manner of his side's triumph over the previously unbeaten Frew can be a platform to climb the table and get firmly into the promotion running.

He said: "Nobody should be reading a fluke result from this outcome as we played really well on the day despite being without a number of key players.

"Yes, the teams were only separated by an Ian McGeechan penalty kick, but we can be proud of our efforts after twice being denied further goals by the woodwork.

"Our target now is to maintain that level of performance against St Anthony's, not least because stringing together back-to-back wins has proved beyond us other than in our opening couple of league fixtures.

"That's simply not good enough in a division where things are so tight and so many similar sides are vying for promotion."

This week's return to training of broken-leg victim Davie Mackay leaves Currie with a near full-strength squad to choose from for the first time this season.

One-time Celtic signing Hayden Cochrane returned to the fray against Renfrew after a two-month absence, while Stevie Howarth, who broke ribs in a car crash, was on the substitutes' bench.

Joel Kasabundi, Hashim Cole, Gary McLymont and youngster Andy McLay have also declared themselves available after being posted missing at Keanie Park.

Currie insisted: "I'd like to think the added competition for jerseys will motivate the guys to get the better of St Anthony's. We needed penalty kicks to come out on top against them in a recent West of Scotland Cup tie so nothing but our best will do."

St Anthony's, six points worse off from one game fewer, are determined to close the gap on their city rivals and are boosted by the return after suspension of defensive stalwart Gareth Timmoney, while Sean Cuddihy could feature after launching an appeal against his red carding during last week's 4-1 reverse away to Lanark United.

Injuries suffered by Thomas Miller and Willie Duncan at Moor Park have prompted Ants gaffer James McKenna into signing Spanish midfielder Ivan Jaramillo Gonzales, whose last-known club is Portugalete from the Tercera Division in Spain.

Cotter said: "Ivan came to our attention after coming to Glasgow to work and he has earned his spurs with a decent display in a recent friendly match with Cumnock.

"He comes with a decent pedigree from having played as a youth player with Athletic Bilbao. However, it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the very competitive arena of Junior football."

Renfrew will not find it easy to get back to winning ways when visiting joint-second Lesmahagow and any slip-up could be pounced upon by nearest challengers Bellshill Athletic, fancied to pick up all three points away to Benburb at Saracen Park.

But, arguably, the First Division game of the day is at Lochburn Park. Fifth-placed Maryhill host a Blantyre Vics side still smarting from their Euroscot Eng Cup Final collapse against Cumbernauld United last Sunday.

Vics gaffer Davie Greig said: "I took the opportunity last Saturday to watch Maryhill's 3-0 defeat of Wishaw and they looked a more-than-decent side capable of giving us a tough time of it.

" It's a huge test of character for my players, but one I am sure they will relish as they are desperate to get back on the rails and will need little motivating."

Dunipace are fancied to underline their promotion credentials by picking up three points at home against Lanark United, while another home win is predicted at Gasworks Park where Larkhall Thistle take on struggling bottom markers Ashfield.
