Cumbernauld United skipper Tony Fraser believes last Sunday's stunning Euroscot Eng Cup Final victory over Blantyre Vics will count for nothing if he and his team-mates can't stop an alarming tumble down the Super First Division table.

Three defeats in six league starts have left John Queen's men in ninth spot and Fraz is warning his team-mates of the ramifications should they crash again when Greenock make the trip up to Guy's Meadow this coming Saturday.

Said the 34-year-old: "Picking up my seventh winner's medal in Junior football last weekend has not sated my appetite for more of the same and my target now is to reach double figures with this Cumbernauld side.

"I told Queeny and anyone prepared to listen when signing in the close season I was coming to win trophies and not for a jolly to see out my playing days, but I don't think people took me seriously.

"I knew there were exceptional players at this club capable of competing with the best in the game but for too long their mentality has been to treat Junior football as a hobby rather than a means to be a winner.

"Hopefully tasting silverware success on Sunday and seeing what it means to our supporters will have made a difference to their mindset.

"Our main objective starting out this season was to be in the running for promotion and we can still get there despite our poor start in the league.

"But we can only do that by stringing a few results together - starting with our home match against Greenock on Saturday.

"Easier said than done I know because they are a battling side who never give opposing teams an easy time of it but our confidence is sky high."

The experienced defensive ace reckons his side's strength in depth will help them recover.

He insisted: "We looked dead and buried at 3-1 down in the final but Queeny introduced three big-game players off the bench in George Scott, Scott Murphy and Chris Zok.

"They made an immediate impact on the game, especially Zok, who netted our last-gasp equaliser.

"His penalty box presence has been a huge miss in recent weeks even though Gary Carrol has been excellent in leading the forward line.

"Now I fancy them to come together in a partnership that will score a lot of goals.

"My old club Pollok have opened up a sizeable points gap on the chasing pack and look like running away with the title, but there is no shame in setting our sights on second spot or indeed the play-off place: both are up for grabs."

League leaders Pollok await the visit of a Yoker side determined to atone for last weekend's 3-1 reverse at home to Maybole.

That result dropped the Whe Ho, steered by John McAulay, down to fifth place in the Super First Division table.

Lok boss Tony McInally said: "It's the last game of Alan McKenzie's suspension, otherwise we are at full strength for what has all the makings of a tough 90 minutes.

"The bedding-down of partnerships throughout our team appears to be finally paying dividends as last week's defeat of Ardeer Thistle racked up our fourth clean sheet on the spin, which no Pollok defence has managed in over three years."

At the other end of the table , Thorniewood United, Largs Thistle and Irvine Vics will all strive to make home advantage tell in crunch fixtures.

The toughest hurdle awaits the promoted Irvine outfit going up against promotion-seeking Rutherglen Glencairn whose strike-force is boosted by the signing of former Glens Under- 21 marksman Ross McNeil.

His 101 goals in the 2012/13 season earned him a move to Stenhousemuir.

A subsequent transfer to Albion Rovers did not work out for the 23-year-old forward and he has jumped at the chance to return to Glencairn.
