GET yourself down to Portland Park for 2.30pm on Sunday if you want to see the two deadliest hitmen in the West attempt to gun down their rivals in a blockbuster shoot-out that should be titled "High Troon".

In the red and white corner is Glenafton goal machine Aaron Connolly with six goals in six starts since coming back from injury, including a hat-trick last weekend.

And in the black-and-gold corner is Auchinleck Talbot striker Graham Wilson, who has netted an astonishing 19 times in 14 games this season.

At stake is the Ardagh Glass League Cup, with the Ayrshire giants preparing to contest the final on one of the country's best playing surfaces.

There are sure to be shots aplenty as both teams go gunning for the trophy, even if bookmakers have The Bot as firm favourites.

But Glens star Connolly is going into the game in defiant mood after notching a treble in a 6-0 thrashing of Shotts.

He said: "Auchinleck have been the dominant force in the Junior game for as long as I can remember, but that will not stop us from having a real go at them on Sunday.

"It does not come much tougher than meeting them in a final, as they seldom come second best in big games.

"However, we took great heart from how we played against them when narrowly going down 2-1 in our Ardagh Glass sectional clash.

"Most people expected them to run over the top of us, but that was not the case. We came ever so close to giving them a bloody nose on the day."

Connolly's striking partner in Troon will almost certainly be Alain Kinney, who grabbed a double last weekend.

The 23-year-old frontman said: "We got our reward for working in tandem against Shotts with five goals between us. If Alain and I are asked to shoulder the responsibility of taking on Talbot it won't have us quaking in our boots."

"Our feelgood factor is now sky-high and we can't wait for the final. Our gaffer, Tommy Bryce, is very supportive. He tells us to have no fear and just go for it in every game."

Connolly was quick to point out Glenafton are anything but a two-man team.

He said: "We are fortunate to have some top-notch guys in our side to support us.

"Cammy Marlowe makes terrific runs and has a nose for goal while James McKernon is our midfield general.

"And Adam Strachan is a footballing genius when he's in the mood. Now we need to show there is a new mentality in our dressing room by getting our hands on the cup."

Bit-match nerves are unlikely to affect Talbot talisman Wilson, who has already shown a liking for the final limelight.

He picked up a hat-trick and the Man of the Match award in the 7-1 demolition of Neilston in June as Auchinleck won the Evening Times Champions Cup. But Wilson insists his colleagues deserve the glory.

He said: "I owe it all to my team-mates. David Gormley is a dream of a partner because he likes to go short to take the ball into his feet.

"That allows myself or Keir Milliken to push further up the park to look for the ball played in behind defenders.

"And the pressing tactics of our midfield lend themself to us dominating possession and lead to an array of openings being created."

Wilson scored again last weekend but was left gutted as Talbot tumbled out of the

William Hill Scottish Cup with a 2-1 loss at Edinburgh City.

He admitted: "We had a few key players missing yet still played well enough to win if we'd only taken our chances.

"The important thing now is to get that defeat out of our system, so it helps to have a

final coming up. It's the ideal game for us, not least because it's against our local rivals."
