Petershill are not in the slightest bit concerned with having a say in the Super Premier Division relegation contest,

Yielding up points to basement strugglers Cumnock, Arthurlie and Pollok in their last three outings will have eyes focused on how the league runners-up fare when hosting rock-bottom Shotts Bon Accord tonight.

A Peasy victory would act as a near-final nail in the coffin for the Lanarkshire side's slender survival hopes.

But Springburn co-bosses Scott Smith and Willie Patterson are intent on fielding a whole raft of trialists in the New Petershill Park contest.

"Willie and I are making no apologies for considering Petershill's aims as our No.1 priority "said Smith.

"It would be very easy for us to rest on our laurels and say that finishing second in the table to Auchinleck Talbot is a decent achievement.

"But in terms of assessing the overall season , it can only be thought a successful campaign if we were to also get our hands on silverware.

"That's why foremost in our thoughts is retaining an interest in two remaining cup competitions – the New Coin Holdings Cup and Euroscot Eng League Cup.

"So, yes, we will not be putting out our strongest line up against Shotts, but the very same decision would be made regardless of whether it was Beith, Arthurlie or Pollok in opposition."

Top goalscorer Stephen McGladrigan and the highly rated centre-back pairing of Ross McCabe and Ryan Jordan will be missing from tonight's action.

Smith said: "Both Ross and Ryan are only one yellow card away from incurring automatic two-game suspensions, so there is no way we want to run the risk of either of them sitting out the cup games .

"Leaving them out of the side is undoubtedly showing in our performances and our results given the points dropped of late – and we recently suffered our heaviest league defeat of the season in losing 4-0 to Cumnock, which, with all due respect, would never have happened if they were playing.

"Stephen also sat out that game because of a long-standing ankle problem that requires surgery, but he is hoping to get through the season before going under the knife.

"Take into account the fact Richie Burke is out for the season with a suspected hernia that leaves us down to a 15-man playing squad.

"You can see why it's not a bad thing to introduce trialists for what in effect is a meaningless game for us. I can understand one or two other teams not seeing things that way.

"But the same scenario confronted us last season when Irvine Meadow were given a helping hand to overhaul us in the title race by coming up against weakened sides."

The other top-flight game taking place is at Adamslie Park, where Rob Roy take on second-bottom Arthurlie, who are seeking all three points to guarantee their safety from the drop.

Rutherglen Glencairn face a tricky hurdle as they look to continue their charge up the Super First Division table with a win on the road at Glasgow Perthshire.

Lesmahagow's challenge for the remaining Central First Division promotion place could receive a boost in the shape of three points from bottom markers East Kilbride Thistle's visit to Craighead Park.

A couple of intriguing Euroscot Eng League Cup last-eight ties are in prospect with Saracen Park hosting the clash of city pair Ashfield and Shettleston, while through in Lanarkshire a rejuvenated Thorniewood United await the visit of Pollok.
