PETERSHILL marched into the Euroscot Eng League Cup last 16 following a 2-0 victory over city rivals Pollok.

First-season Junior prospect Keiran Daw proved to be the man who mattered for the Peasy, scoring both their goals in an eventful second period after the teams had played out a first-half Newlandsfield stalemate.

His first effort was an absolute cracker, coming in the wake of a surging Graeme Girvan run that saw the visiting full-back surge past two opponents before pulling the ball back into the path of Daw, whose side-footed shot found the net.

And the young midfielder displayed nerves of steel in clinching his side's victory with a cool 88th-minute finish from the penalty spot as a result of frontman Stepehen McGladrigan being felled in the act of rounding his former Peasy team-mate Kieran McAleenan.

Petershill boss Willie Patterson insisted the better team won on the night, saying: "I thought that over the piece we fully deserved to come out on top, and all credit to the guys for their response to losing against Arthurlie last weekend.

"We have a lot to be happy about in terms of our display, not least the fact our goalkeeper has not had a save of note to make over the 90 minutes, and that is a major plus for our defenders who were criticised last Saturday when we lost fours goals.

"Hopefully the confidence boost from last night will serve us in good stead over our run-in to the season.

"Daw continued on his recent run of form and was yet again outstanding, but a special mention has to go to McGladrigan for running the Pollok defenders ragged."

Holders Clydebank retained hopes of defending the trophy with a 2-1 defeat of Rutherglen Glencairn with Ian Gold and Phil Barclay netting for the Bankies either side of Ross McNeil scoring for the Glens.

Kilbirnie Ladeside eased their Stagecoach Super Premier relegation fears with a 3-1 win against Arthurlie, while the Super First promotion battle was given further food for thought by strong-going Cumbernauld United losing out 3-2 at Yoker at the same time as Shettleston were racking up a 2-1 triumph at Kilsyth Rangers - a much-needed three points following a shock weekend defeat by Port Glasgow.
