MARYHILL duo Brian Heron and George Wall will not be assuming their normal dugout places when the famous old Glasgow club head through for today's Central First Division clash against title contenders Lesmahagow.

The Lochburn Park management team of the past five seasons decided to tender their resignations in midweek and leave experienced player/coach Michael Tolland in charge until the end of season.

It's an amicable parting of the ways according to Wall, who admits he will probably take in the Craighead Park contest.

He explained: "Five years is a long time to be in charge at any club, so Brian and I were always thinking it appropriate to walk away at the end of this season and had let club officials know of our intentions.

"But taking just one point from our last three league outings has seen our promotion hopes slip away and we feel now is the right time to step aside and let Maryhill appoint someone who will then have an ideal opportunity to run the rule over the playing staff in our remaining 13 league games.

"Michael has aspirations to move into management and is also up to speed with the promising younger guys coming through from our Under-21 side, so it's good he gets this chance to stake his claim for the post on a permanent basis and we wish him the best of luck."

Wall did not rule out he and Heron getting back into the Juniors when discussing their future plans. He added: "I think a break from the two nights and a Saturday routine will do us good, but we'll still take in weekend games and keep an eye out for what management opportunities arise in due course."

The hotseat vacancy at struggling Central Second Division bottom markers Newmains United has been filled after former Bellshill midfielder John Fallon took up the reins and will be in charge for today's short hop to Royal Albert.
