POLLOK sealed promotion back to the Stagecoach Super Premier Division last night on the back of a resounding 4-0 defeat of promotion rivals Cumbernauld United.

Tam Hanlon, Robbie Winters, David Winters and John Sweeney were on target as the Lok ran riot at Guy's Meadow.

Second in the table Rob Roy could yet pip Tony McInally's men to the Super First title honours, however Shettleston's challenge for top spot was ended by a 2-2 draw away to Rutherglen Glencairn.

The New Southcroft Park affair saw Shettleston come blasting out of the traps and go close to scoring with Reece McGillion and Danny Boyle efforts, however totally against the run of play they fell 1-0 behind just after the quarter of an hour mark.

A slip from skipper Reon Juskowiak gave away possession to Glens midfielder Sean McGuire, whose defence-splitting pass picked out Ross McNeil and the striker tucked the ball beyond Bryn Halliwell.

Shettleston staged a number of attacking forays looking to get back on level terms, but the home defence held firm until the 35th minute when Town winger Bob Campbell was sent crashing as he raced past opponent Graham Brown to bring a penalty kick award hammered home by Scott Anson.

Things seemed to be going according to plan when Anson nodded on a high ball into the path of forward line partner Calum McRobbie, and he fired past Jon Hutchison to put the Town 2-1 ahead, but Glencairn hit back with a 65th-minute leveller from McNeil following good lead-up play from Thomas Kilmartin.

Ex-Albion Rovers frontman McNeil had a glorious chance to win the game in the closing minutes, but he hesitated in the act of shooting, allowing the impressive Halliwell to pinch the ball from his feet.

Disappointed Town gaffer Hugh Kelly said: "The guys are looking favourites to finish in the play-off place, but the way we are playing I would bite your hand off for third-top spot right now.

"We are making it so hard for ourselves and we desperately need to get some of our injured players into the reckoning for jerseys because the amount of games is taking its toll on the players and some of them are running on empty."

In the Super Premier top flight games, Kilbirnie Ladeside gave themselves a fighting chance of avoiding the play-off after Keiron McAnespie and Adam Forde scores clinched a 2-0 win against Clydebank that lifts the Blasties above fellow-basement strugglers Shotts Bon Accord.

Arthurlie remain on the fringes of danger after losing 4-0 away to title chasing Hurlford United.
