HURLFORD UNITED soured the greatest day in Findlay Frye's footballing career when they ran out 3-0 winners over Glenafton in last season's Scottish Junior Cup final.

The intervening 10 months may have seen the midfielder join the Tony McInally revolution at Pollok, but he has never stopped dreaming about getting back on the biggest stage of all, so he found it ironical when the Glasgow cracks were paired with the holders in this season's quarter-final draw.

That eagerly awaited last-eight showdown goes ahead at Blair Park today - and the 23-year-old cannot wait to get in among the action.

He said: "These are the games everyone wants to play in and I'm no different to every other Pollok player, even though I have better reasons than most for wanting to get my own back on Hurlford.

"They are a cracking side and deservedly lifted the cup last time, however Pollok proved in knocking them out of the West just a fortnight ago that we have nothing to fear.

"That win gave me a small measure of consolation and I would love to have done the double come the final whistle, but I know from experience just how tough it is to get a result down there.

"Their strike pairing of Ross Robertson and Stewart Kean were kept quiet by immense displays from big Paul Gallagher in tandem with Jamie Darroch in the West, and I reckon similar performances today will stand us in good stead."

Away from the cup, Super Premier Division leaders Irvine Meadow will attempt to stretch their advantage atop the standings when hosting Glenafton.

Medda's need to win should ensure jerseys for twin strikers Willie Sawyers and Chris Hall, while a starting place could be found for new signing Liam Finnigan after he netted after coming on as a substitute in last weekend's 3-1 defeat of Cumnock.

Third top Petershill face a tricky encounter at Beith and a crunch basement contest goes ahead at Hannah Park where bottom pair Shotts and Clydebank are set to lock horns.
