POLLOK powered through to a New Coin Holdings West Cup quarter-final date with minnows Wishaw after a classy 4-0 romp at Shettleston.

The easy-street victory keeps alive their hopes of a glory double, as they are currently five points clear at the top of the Super First Division.

Lok's win at Greenfield Park owed much to a storming second-half display that the hosts simply couldn't match.

Tony McInally's men were on fire - and Shettleston just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Commanding centre-half Jamie Darroch started the rout with the only goal of the first half and insisted revenge was sweet.

He said: "The last time we came here they turned us over, so it was great to get the win, especially in a cup-tie as it keeps your season going.

"We were a goal up with a couple of minutes to go on our last visit, so it was definitely on our minds - and provided the perfect incentive to go out there and get the win.

"This is only my third season in the Juniors and I hadn't scored before coming to Pollok, but that's my fourth this season. I'm delighted to chip in with a few.

"I had a good chance a few seconds before I got my goal, but I just couldn't get the right connection. Hopefully there are more to come."

But while Darroch was pleased with his goal, he was also more than happy to pay tribute to the forward-thinking players in the Pollok ranks.

He said: "We always have a chance of scoring from set-pieces because the delivery we have in the team is first-class.

"We had a poor opening period, but I felt we hit top form after the break. We really dominated, especially going forward as we have some of the best attacking players in the league.

"We are into the next round of the tournament, but promotion remains our number one aim, although you want to win every competition you enter.

"But our minds now turn to the league, and we have two massive games. We are at Cumbernauld tonight and then at home to Largs on Wednesday - so it's an important week."

Darroch went close from a Dean Richardson corner after just three minutes, but nodded home the opener from the resultant corner.

Lok skipper John Sweeney was denied a spectacular second moments before the break when Town keeper Stephen Hutchison tipped over his 40-yard effort. But Sweeney's long throw set up David Winters to crash home the second from 10 yards in the 53rd minute.

The visitors were well on top and Ryan McCann headed home on the hour, but was sent packing for a second yellow 15 minutes later.

Ten-man Pollok ended the scoring from the spot when Tam Hanlon drilled home after sub Alan Lindsay was hauled down in the box, and boss McInally was delighted with his afternoon's work.

He said: "I thought it was a comfortable win. We went about our job in a professional manner and got the goals at the right time. Jamie Darroch got us off to a good start and we controlled the second half, so I'm pleased.

"We want to do well in all competitions, but I've only got a small squad so I need to manage it as best I can. I was missing six players against Shettleston.

"But I'm delighted because they are a good side and have already beaten us on their own ground so it was pleasing to get the win."

Shettleston assistant Andy Thomson was philosophical about the defeat and said: "We made a few changes to the team as the league is more important in our eyes.

"We wanted to give a couple of players a bit of a rest, and we would love to have won the game, but the better team won on the day.

"But we are now focusing on Glencairn away tonight and then Neilston back at Shettleston on Wednesday. That's the games we are desperate to win. We will take this one on the chin and move on."

Pollok's convincing victory set up a David and Goliath quarter-final tie against Wishaw at Beltane Park.

The Lanarkshire side came through a tough match against Blantyre Vics, eventually winning 4-3 on penalties after the game had finished 1-1.

Ardrossan Winton Rovers pulled off the shock result of the round by edging Auchinleck Talbot 3-2 at Beechwood Park.

A Colin Spence own goal gave the visitors the lead, which John Johnston doubled, but Gordon Pope and Mark Shankland levelled.

Conor Browning struck in the dying minutes to set up Rovers' boss Chris Strain with a last-eight tie against his former side Irvine Meadow.

The Ayrshire giants dumped Shotts 2-1 despite being a goal down. Paul Maxwell and Ryan Deas netted for Stevie Rankin's men.

Arthurlie won 2-0 at Kilsyth Rangers, and will host Cumbernauld United, who shocked top-flight Petershill 3-0 at Guy's Meadow.
