Two of Junior football's leading hotshots are relishing the prospect of coming up against their former clubs on Saturday when Super Premier Division rivals Pollok and Rob Roy lock horns.

Iain Diack - whose 23-goal haul for the Rabs last season earned him near cult-hero status among Kirkintilloch followers - is thought a racing certainty to figure in the home team's attacking spearhead.

The visiting ranks are set to be fronted by Willie Sawyers if he overcomes a knee strain. He reckons he could and would have chalked up a lot more than 14 strikes for the Southsiders last time out if only he had played more regularly.

A glance at the respective squads ahead of the Newlandsfield showdown indicates an astonishing array of 13 players - 10 Pollok and three Rob Roy - will be in opposition to their erstwhile Junior clubs.

And that grand total was up at 14 players until earlier this week when Rob Roy accepted a signing bid from Linlithgow Rose which has resulted in ex-Pollok and St Mirren goalkeeper Michael McKinven moving to the East Region giants.

Their eye for goal has clearly not deserted the feted striking pair with both currently topping the scoring charts at their new clubs, though it has to be said the Pollok man's 14-goal tally pales somewhat in comparison to the 19 counters plundered by his Adamslie Park counterpart.

Diack can however lay claim to having the upper hand in their hitman head-to-heads this season as he netted twice against a solitary strike from Sawyers when Pollok triumphed 3-2 in a Euroscot Eng Sectional League Cup quarter-final.

The Junior cap said: "Myself and Richie Barr were left on the bench that night with the intention of resting us up ahead of Pollok's opening league match.

"But we were thrown into the fray at half-time with Rob Roy leading 2-0 and thankfully we came up with the goals to turn the tie in our favour.

"I wasn't very popular in the eyes of the Rabs supporters as you might expect, but coming up against former teams is part and parcel of the game everywhere I've played so all the jeering and barracking don't perturb me in the slightest."

Diack says he and his team-mates will be going all out to halt a damaging run of three consecutive league defeats that have plummeted Pollok down to third-bottom spot in the Super Premier pile .

He said: "We have fallen away after a promising start to the season and have probably shot ourselves in the foot as regards mounting a title challenge.

"But the players here are more than capable of stringing together three or four wins to get us into the top half of the table."

Sawyers picked up a knee strain training in midweek and is considered a doubtful starter but he is refusing to give up on his dream of making a scoring return to Newlandsfield.

He said: "I have a lot of happy memories of my time there even though I was on the bench too much.

"Coming here is allowing me to prove I can put the ball in the net at the very top level.

"However our form as a team has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride in as much as we haven't strung two wins together since taking six points from our opening league matches back in August.

"That's not a good sign given we are heading to the south side on the back of beating Largs Thistle last weekend, but the feelgood factor has been there at training this week and everyone is looking forward to having a go at Pollok."

Rabs player/manager Stewart Maxwell said intriguingly: "Willie will be a loss if ruled out but maybe I'll have a surprise signing up my sleeve that will help compensate."
