Lesmahagow manager Rab Irving has been on the Scottish Junior Cup trail far too many times to be making predictions.

And he's not about to start now. But Gow's superb 4-1 replay win away to Jeanfield Swifts on Saturday has brought the number of West Region clubs in tonight's Evening Times staged fourth-round draw up to a confirmed 17 clubs (with the distinct possibility of two more to follow).

And that has left Irving convinced the Holy Grail silverware will again be taking up residency in these parts come next June.

But the former midfielder who played for the Lesmahagow side beaten in the 1990 Scottish Final by Hill O'Beath stops short of claiming his own side's hot cup streak could see them go all the way this season.

He said: "It put our victory over Jeanfield into perspective when a few of our club officials were saying on Saturday that decades rather than years have elapsed since Lesmahagow made it into the last 32.

"Jeanfield are no lesser lights and boast a set-up that would be the envy of most clubs down here, so they were firm favourites after arguably looking the more likely team when drawing 1-1 at our place.

"However, I had three aces up my sleeve in Johnny Logan, Gary McStay and Gerry Bonham, who make up the spine of our team and were all posted missing in the first game.

"Their return gave our dressing room a huge lift and it's no exaggeration to say the whole team responded with a terrific performance and simply blew Jeanfield away.

"Logan underlined his growing potential as a striker with a couple of goals with Jamie Hamilton and Jack Taylor also getting on the scoresheet before Jeanfield weighed in with a late consolation.

"I don't' know how it will go in the draw tonight, but regardless of the pairings our target is nothing more than to get our name into the hat for the fifth round."

The Gow boss admitted his team's weekend performance may have had the Jeanfield fans perplexed as to why they play in the equivalent of the Third Division.

But he added: "The West has been the hotbed of Junior football in recent years and with so many top sides around I certainly don't see any signs of a shift in the power base.

"You only have to look at tonight's draw - every team will be desperate to avoid coming out against the cup holders Hurlford United, Auchinleck Talbot, Arthurlie or Pollok and that speaks volumes about the football standards down here.

"And don't rule out a few shocks because the District League sides are not just making up the numbers."

Also taking their place among the last 32 are Port Glasgow following their 2-0 win over Dyce.

But the tag of shock troops undoubtedly belongs to Central Second Division outfit Johnstone Burgh who dished out a 4-2 beating to two Divisions better off Largs Thistle.

Meanwhile, Ayrshire District League promotion challengers Lugar Boswell are looking for a new manager after Carlo Walker resigned on Saturday to take up the reins at Maybolem, where he previously played for more than ten years.
