Pollok could be lining up a shock move to sign former PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year Robbie Winters.

The journeyman striker's chequered career was notably played out at Dundee United and Aberdeen with whom he earned a solitary Scotland cap.

He spent six years in Norway with Brann Bergen, winning cup and league title honours and the Norwegian Player of the Year award along the way.

He has dropped down the divisions since and the now 39-year-old is not thought to have played competitively since agreeing to an Albion Rovers trial period in 2013.

At Livingston, Robbie played alongside younger brother David for the first time in their careers and it's believed he would not be averse to forming a Lok striking partnership with his 31-year-old sibling who only moved to Newlandsfield from Sauchie Juniors towards the end of last season.

Earlier this week, Pollok boss Tony McInally had poured cold water on the suggestion of him recruiting the elder Winters and said: "Yes, Robbie has been in and around the place recently but that's all down to him asking through David if he could be afforded training facilities.

"He's been more than welcome, not least because the younger guys in our dressing room can learn so much from rubbing shoulders with someone whose professional approach to the game is second to none.

"That said, we have not had any discussions over him turning out in any games for us and there are no plans to offer him signing terms even if he was ever willing to consider dropping into the Junior ranks."

Macca might well be about to change his mind after the brothers linked up to great effect in midweek when Robbie's introduction as a second half substitute helped Pollok recover from a 1-0 interval deficit to overcome Blantyre Vics by a 4-1 scoreline.

Other signing news has Clydebank and Kilbirnie Ladeside battling it out for the signature of Tower Hearts' highly-rated frontman Graham Boyd who has netted goals in trial matches for each Junior club.

Bankies gaffer Budgie McGhie is desperately hoping to persuade Boyd to make an appearance for his side against Rob Roy in tomorrow's friendly encounter at Adamslie Park.

He also plans to parade one of Boyd's Tower Hearts team-mates, Johnny Allan, who last night agreed a contract offer to join the Super Premier Division high fliers.

Budgie said: "Johnny is a midfielder with an eye for a pass and a good attitude so we are looking forward to seeing how he develops at Junior level and the hope is Graham will come on board as well.

"He's a lad with a decent physique who gives us something different but we face a fight to get him because Kilbirnie are moving heaven and earth to entice him down to Valefield even though they already have a couple of big bustling types in Michael Moore and Iain Diack."

Budgie reports to having defensive problems for the Rob Roy contest with stopper Paul Bell a definite non-starter and facing up to a month on the sidelines with a torn calf muscle injury.

And close season centreback recruit from Greenock - Andy Irvine - is also likely to be posted missing with a niggling groin strain.

The boss went on: "We dare not risk taking a chance with Andy and end up losing him for a longer term so we'll need to make do with one or two guys playing out of position.

"Another option is to throw in another of the up and coming Tower Hearts players -Rhys Donaldson - who has looked decent but probably not any better than the central

defenders currently at the club so I want to be fair and not just use him as a stopgap."

Cumbernauld United - beaten 4-1 by the Bankies in midweek - are not taking a friendly fixture tomorrow as gaffer John Queen works to a carefully prepared programme.

He said: "Getting the right mix between fitness and match sharpness is the key at this stage of the season and right now I believe our squad is needing a stiff workout more than anything else.

"The unavailability of players has hit us hard in our friendly affairs and we've been forced to experiment with a number of trialists while awaiting the return from holidays of Danny Boyle, James Brown, Scott Murphy and Chris Zok.

"Scott is one of our summer signings and has not managed to get a training session under his belt yet we had no choice last Wednesday other than to throw him straight in at the deep end against Clydebank.

"Under the circumstances, he did far better than expected but he and our other newcomers, Davie Dickson (Petershill), Ryan Sullivan (Hurlford United), Gavin Mackie (Jeanfield Swifts) and Simon Eeles (Kilsyth Rangers) will undoubtedly benefit most from a bonding session with the others on the training ground.

"There are promising signs from a playing perspective with Dickson in particular looking like he can run the show from midfield, but first and foremost comes the fitness groundwork which is so essential if we are to compete against the big boys."
