Pollok boss Tony McInally might have to do some thinking over his side's starting line-up for this weekend's Scottish Junior Cup third round tie up at Dundee Violet - but he certainly won't be doing any fretting over his striker position.

Macca knows he has at his beck and call prolific hitman Davie Winters, who it seems can't stop scoring since moving to the famous old Glasgow outfit four games before the end of last season.

He can currently lay claim to stats of 25 goals in 21 appearances and his predatory ways have already made him a favourite of the Newlandsfield faithful. Not that you'd ever find the quietly spoken 31-year-old talking himself up.

He prefers to keep his more demonstrative side under wraps until in and around the penalty box as he has done throughout a career that has taken in Dundee United, Ross County, Hamilton Accies and Livingston among others.

His 15 years as a Senior is also notable for him being the first Scottish footballer to play in the Vietnamese League (he spent a season with Can Tho) but the East Kilbride-based frontman called time on his travelling ways when he opted to join Sauchie at the start of last season.

He said: "Sauchie are a very ambitious East Super League club with a strong pool of players and we reached the fifth round of the Scottish Junior Cup last season then lost out 3-1 in a replay to Camelon.

"I would probably have stayed there but that Scottish defeat came as something of a hammer blow to people behind the scenes and the result was our gaffer Fraser Duncan came under pressure to cut costs.

"And I was released despite being top scorer.

"Tony then got in touch and I went along to a Pollok training session and signed a short-term deal until the end of season, but that smattering of games was all it took to convince me that coming here would be a dream move and I was happy to commit to a longer-term contract."

His experience with Sauchie leaves Davie well placed to say whether Pollok have a chance of Cup glory this term.

"I don't see why not because as a group of players we are improving with every game and right now we are playing high-end football. Confidence in the dressing room is high as a result of that.

"Tony has brought together a new team and it has undoubtedly taken us time to gel.

"But though the signs are looking very promising, I won't commit myself to any prediction other than to say it will take a good team to beat us.

"And I don't know enough about Dundee Violet to say whether they fit that bill but no doubt Tony and his backroom staff have done their homework and will clue everyone up prior to kick-off on Saturday."

Pollok boss Macca would not be drawn on his selection thoughts but he did hint at a return for cornerstone midfielder John Sweeney, saying: "John had been ill with a viral infection in the week leading up to the Rob Roy game and was left out as a precaution.

"But thankfully he's on the mend for the trip up to Dundee because his drive and midfield energy was sorely missed at Guys Meadow last Saturday.

"Another change we made was to add a bit more defensive solidity through introducing Tam Hanlon for more attack-minded Ryan McBeth.

"In turn, this released Kieran McAleenan to play further forward and the switches worked a treat as he netted one of our goals.

"Going with twin strikers allowed us to be more aggressive against the Rabs and we might need a similar approach up at Dundee, given that all reports to date show they are a big and physically powerful team.

"Winters was our other goalscorer against Rob Roy with a typically opportunist effort .

"To my mind he is easily the best striker going the rounds at Junior football level."

The Pollok gaffer confirmed he has reached agreement with Lanark United on a loan taking youngster Michael McGhee to Moor Park, where he will team up with his ex-Pollok Juveniles team-mate Thomas Clark, who only completed a move to John Brogan's side last week.

Macca said the two need game time and are not getting enough at Pollok.

He added: "Their departures have freed up space to bring in former senior left back Ryan Scanlon, whose greater experience will offer us a stronger challenge for the jerseys. "
