STEVEN LAWLESS reckons Partick Thistle are proving they are the pass masters as their flying start to the season continues.

Jackie McNamara's side kept up their perfect record in the Irn-Bru First Division this term with a 4-0 win over Hamilton Accies last Saturday as Billy Reid's side joined Falkirk, Dunfermline and Dumbarton in succumbing to the impressive Firhill outfit.

The Jags are the only team in Scotland with a 100% league record intact, with last week's Scottish Communities League Cup loss to Hamilton the only blot on their copybook so far as they have flown out of the blocks.

The winger was joined on the scoresheet against Accies by fellow- summer arrival Sean Welsh and Firhill new boy Steven Craig as he continued his superb start to the campaign.

Next up is a Ramsdens Cup quarter-final against Raith Rovers on Sunday, and the former Motherwell youngster is confident Thistle can continue to go from strength to strength.

He said: "I think my best (goal tally for a season) is only three to be honest. I think this is my highest already.

"I had a season at Albion Rovers where I think I scored three and I scored three again when I went back for half a year. so I have beaten it already.

"The players we have brought in have fitted right into the system. They were trying to play this way last year and they were doing well.

"We are a passing team – I am not the biggest so that is key for me."

He went on: "It is a great place to be around. You look forward to training when you are winning. It is good to come in every day and the training is really good.

"It is near enough all ballwork. We train on Astroturf so it would be stupid not to use the facilities to work on passing. It is really good."

Saturday's comfortable league triumph came just days after McNamara's side crashed out of the cup after extra time at New Douglas Park.

The Jags gained their revenge against Accies in superb fashion with a convincing display, and Lawless admits they were keen to make amends for their below-par showing on cup duty.

He said: "I didn't think I performed that well last Tuesday night. I was quite harsh on myself.

"Hamilton are my home team so I was disappointed, I had a lot of family at that game. It was good to get a result on Saturday, a lot of them were there.

"I was hoping for a better performance, but the goal was a plus. It wasn't really mentioned before kick-off. It was just in the players' minds because we felt like we had let ourselves down a bit.

"We felt a bit disappointed, but the gaffer didn't really say anything about it. It was more about Saturday's game. It was in the players' minds because we felt that we had let the fans down."
