JORG Albertz and Brian Laudrup are hoping to give long-suffering Rangers fans something to cheer in the legends' match with AC Milan this month.

Both Albertz and Laudrup have been devastated at the difficulties their former club has encountered in recent weeks after being placed in administration.

The pair feel strongly for former team-mate Ally McCoist, the Ibrox club's record goalscorer who is now manager, and the army of distraught supporters.

And they are hoping to help lift everyone's spirits when they take on a team of Italians greats, including Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini, on Friday, March 30.

"Of course I will be there," said Albertz. "I wouldn't miss it. I will definitely be playing. I can't wait.

"Rangers supporters around the world are going through a very, very hard time just now. Hopefully, we can give them all something to cheer about even if it is just for 90 minutes.

He added: "The club is suffering just now. Being put into administration is not an easy thing for the fans but hopefully in a few weeks, months or even years the club will be back on an even keel and competing for trophies in Scotland and in Europe.

"It is hard for Ally at the moment as he has not had the money to bring in good enough players to compete either domestically or in Europe.

"It looks like European competition is not going to be an option for the club for some time. They must concentrate on things domestically and build from there if they can."

Laudrup said: "I am looking forward to it. Hopefully we can all put on a good performance and it will be a great occasion for the fans. They haven't had much to smile about lately so it would be good if we could lift them."
