Willie Limond will throw caution to the wind when he faces Pole Arek Malek at the Kelvin Hall tonight in a must-win clash which could pave the way to a European title challenge.

Despite the fact that Limond's only three losses have come against world champions in Alex Arthur, Amir Khan and Mexican legend Erik Morales, the Glaswegian has only held Common-wealth and Celtic titles in a 12-year-pro career.

And the Garthamlock stylist admits his slick, safety-first boxing has not helped him land the big fights he deserved.

Limond said: "This bout is massive for me. If I win, I am planning to head for Cardiff tomorrow to doorstep the winner of the Gavin Rees-Andy Murray European lightweight title fight, along with my manager Tommy Gilmour.

"But, while I am confident of beating Malek, I am aware I might need to put it all out for this one and really let all my guns go. I want to turn in a performance that will really send a message out there and Malek is a decent, solid boxer who can frustrate. So I have to find a way to entertain as well as win."

Even at 32, Limond's desire for title success remains undiminished. He said: "I am still very fresh and ambitious. I believe that, with the experience I picked up from sparring and fighting Morales, I have learned a few new tricks. My work with Peter Harrison, who is now training me, has gone well.

"I am determined that, in front of my home-town fans, I will put on a performance that will reflect all of that."

Limond will share the top-of-the-bill slot with Paisley puncher Kris Carslaw, who defends his British Masters light-middleweight title against Brummy battler Dee Mitchell.
