ALLAN MOORE hopes Morton can use their Renfrewshire Cup Final defeat against St Mirren as motivation when they face Albion Rovers in the Ramsdens Cup at Cappielow tomorrow.

The Ton lost 1-0 to their local rivals last weekend, but Moore was encouraged with the performance of his new-look side.

He will go head-to-head with friend and former colleague Todd Lumsden, and Moore has urged his players to show their quality and avoid an opening-day slip-up against the Irn-Bru Second Division side.

The manager said: "I am pleased so far. I was disappointed not to get a result last Saturday, but I was pleased with the performance and there were certainly some positives.

"There is not much myself and Todd can do. We put the players out on the pitch who we think can get a result.

"Once I have done that, it is up to the players to win the game. It is more about what they can do.

"We have put a decent group together for this year and we have to show that tomorrow. All the pressure will be on us."

The Cappielow clash with be the start of a new era for Rovers as Lumsden takes charge of the Coatbridge club for the first time since replacing Paul Martin as boss.

Lumsden said: "I saw Allan last Sunday and had a chat with him.

"With the squad he has got, he could make a couple of changes and still have a very strong team. Whoever they put out, it will be a tough task for us.

"It will be the first time I will have faced him as a manager.

"I played against him a couple of times, once in the play-offs and then when he was at Stirling.

"It will be tough. Normally I am playing, but I am going to focus on directing the team more this year."
