MORTON gaffer Allan Moore has warned his new-look side they will need to be at their best if they want to achieve a morale-boosting win over Kilmarnock at Cappielow tonight.

Moore's latest captures are Martin Hardie, Scott Taggart and Craig Reid, and he said: "Pre-season is about building momentum and match fitness. We have St Mirren in the Renfrewshire Cup final on Saturday and know how important that is to our fans.

"It would be great to go into that one on the back of a positive result and performance against Killie."

Meanwhile, Killie boss Kenny Shiels will be looking for his side to improve on their 3-2 defeat by Livingston as he admitted he has given up trying to enhance his squad ahead of the SPL kick-off because there is no money available.

Shiels is now focusing his efforts in getting the best out of the players he already has rather than looking for outside help.

He said: "We are not signing any more players because we don't have the money. Dean Shiels is training with us, but we won't be signing him.

"The game against Livingston was exactly what we wanted, and now we need to step that up against Morton."
