There is nothing at stake for Ally McCoist's troubled side, but McCabe, a newcomer to the Ibrox midfield, is keen to use the opportunity to further impress.
The 19-year-old has caught the eye since he was thrown into the first-team and his stock is high after a number of good performances.
Indeed, he is one of the youngsters at the club who has been lauded by the support as an example of the standard that could be maintained next term.
The teenager told the club's official website: "My main objective this season has been to get into the manager's plans.
"Now I'm in there and I've been playing in the last few games, I'm hoping that can continue into next year.
"No matter the result, every game I've been involved in has been a learning curve and I've taken something from each of them.
"I've had experienced players around me giving me advice which has been great and they've really helped me.
"This weekend's match might be a nothing game to some because they've played in 100 games or more for the club already.
"But for me, as a young lad, it's a big fixture and I think it's good for me to feel the emotions of winning and losing and playing at different grounds."
The midfielder also believes the match in Perth is an opportunity to thank the Ibrox fans for their support.
It's been a wretched campaign both on and off the park for the club, but the players have retained the full backing of the fans throughout.
And McCabe expects that they will be atMcDiarmid Park in their numbers for Sunday's game.
No-one quite knows how many more twists and turns there will be in the Rangers saga before some kind of resolution is agreed and McCabe is well aware of the importance of recognising the Ibrox support in the events of the last three months.
"Rangers are a big club and we owe the supporters a result for the backing they have given us," he said.
"We'd like to bow out on a high for them and get a positive result because the fans have been excellent.
"They've really dug in and got behind us to raise money and keep our heads up, as have some people who don't even have any connection to the club at all.
"That just shows how important Rangers are to so many people and it's up to us to thank them for that in the best way we can."
