MANCHESTER CITY and Arsenal are set for a transfer deadline day battle to sign Monaco's Radamel Falcao after both sides were offered the striker for £55million.
The Gunners are looking for a front man after Olivier Giroud was ruled out until the new year with a broken tibia.
At City, if they are to complete a move they must make it happen within the constraints of Uefa's financial fair play system and may have to offload players first, although a loan deal could possibly be a way around the issue.
Strikers are at the centre of transfer business elsewhere, with Loic Remy completing his switch to Chelsea from QPR for £10.5m and Fernando Torres sealing his move away from the club to AC Milan on a two-year loan.
Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa has also left the Barclays Premier League, returning to previous club Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal.
Meanwhile, it was being reported that United's Mexico striker Javier Hernandez was close to making an exit overseas as well through a one-year loan move to Real Madrid.
