BROOMHILL Sports Club play Edinburgh University in the Lowland League on Saturday and will be the only team from the Glasgow area involved in the division.

They will battle it out with the rest for the chance of promotion into the SPFL through the newly-formed pyramid system.

Broomhill boss John Brogan is confident the squad will do well in this campaign and believes the development of talent at BSC will stand the club in good stead for many years to come.

Brogan is looking forward to the home game - which will be played at Maryhill's Lochburn Park - and said: "This is an historic day for the club, the players, backroom staff and myself. We all understand the significance of our first game in the Lowland League.

"I am very pleased with the squad of players we have been able to bring together at BSC. It's taken us a while to do this but we have been determined to get quality players to join and this has been achieved.

"There is something special about this club and the potential for player development is incredible. Ask any manager at any level and they will tell you having a conveyor belt of talent is fundamental to long-term sustainable success. BSC Glasgow will achieve this.

"I took five players from the Broomhill U21s to our pre-season games and training. This was done to bolster our squad but these young players more than held their own against strong Junior teams.

"We have played well and trained hard. The spirit in the squad is excellent. We are all desperate to get going. I hope our supports are ready too!"

BSC chairman Steve Prince feels the club will be a good addition to the Lowland set-up and their inclusion is deserved. "Just 10 years ago Kenny Moyes and myself watched our children play football and somehow the question of running a sports club based on the principles of inclusiveness and community came up," he said.

"We have hundreds of kids in our youth set-up and different age levels. It is our stated aim to develop players to represent our club. Our youth development plans are very exciting.

"It is with great pride that we are able to make our debut in the fifth tier of the Scottish football pyramid."
