CHRISTMAS came early for Glasgow City in Nyon yesterday when they were paired with Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals of the Uefa Women's Champions League.
The eight-in-a-row Scottish champions got the glamour draw - and the first leg on March 21 or 22 will be at home, guaranteeing City by far their biggest crowd. The venue is to be decided.
PSG, who beat two-time winners Olympique Lyonnais in the last 16, will be a formidable challenge, but they don't have the menace of German sides FFC Frankfurt and VfL Wolfsburg. If City can find a way past PSG they will meet Wolfsburg - chasing a third straight title - or Swedish champions Rosengard in the semi-finals.
"It's hard to believe you are watching the draw for the semi-finals of the Champions League and Glasgow City are among the teams," City head coach Eddie Wolecki Black said. "Meeting PSG in the last eight is great for us. From a public interest point of view, PSG is the star draw."
Having ended their 2014 season on Sunday by beating Spartans to lift the Scottish Cup and secure a third successive domestic treble, City will strengthen their squad before the quarter-finals.
They are the first Scottish side to have reached this stage, and the only one of the last eight to have come all the way through from the qualifying rounds.
