Mike Ashley has been a hugely unpopular figure since he first got involved at Rangers.

And when he brought in five lads on loan from Newcastle United this January, he did so under some suspicion from the Ibrox punters. But one of them has definitely proved to be the real deal.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that without Haris Vuckic I don't think Rangers would be in the position they currently are at the minute.

He has that little bit of quality that is hard to find. He can do the things that no-one else at Rangers can.

He has a clever eye, a deft touch but is equally willing to put in a shift defensively.

I honestly don't think Rangers would have prevailed against Queen of the South if he wasn't in there. He really has been that vital to the club in these last few months.

And, as Rangers head to Easter Road this lunchtime looking to see out the second leg of their play-off semi-final against Hibs, he will be hugely important.

And although the Ibrox club have a commanding 2-0 lead going into the game, I still think that there is everything to play for. You have to feel that Rangers are very much in the driving seat and on their way to the play-off final - but I would be reluctant to say that it is over and done with.

Hibs need only look back to this time a year ago when they held a 2-0 lead over Hamilton Accies and then lost the second leg on penalties after Alex Neil's got an early goal and got right back into it.

So it is not entirely gone, but you would have to say that this current Rangers team look unrecognisable to what they were just a few months ago.

And I would say that Stuart McCall deserves full credit for turning things around.

For the first time this season, I would say that Rangers look fit, they look united as a team and there is a strength of character and spirit there that has not been evident for large chunks of this campaign.

I thought on Wednesday night they were the team that looked as though they wanted to win the game more.

They were hungry and although the football might not have been the best, you would have to say that their two goals - especially the first - were good and they succeeded in restricting Hibs to very few shots on goal.

But Hibs will look to get that early goal and if they are successful in doing so then you just don't know what the effect on Rangers may be.

But what they will look to do is replicate the atmosphere that was created inside Ibrox in midweek.

It was an intimidating arena for Hibs to step into with the noise levels significant.

There were a few who overstepped the mark by throwing paper at the Hibs players and refusing to give the ball back, but by and large it was a raucous crowd that got behind their team.

Hibs need to try and create a similar atmosphere at Easter Road and see where it takes them.
