SHAUN Maloney reckons striker Steven Fletcher has rediscovered his scoring touch at just the right time for Scotland.

Last weekend the former Hibs forward got back on the scoresheet for Sunderland for the first time since December.

He netted a double for Gus Poyet's side in their 3-1 win over Stoke City in the Barclays Premier League fixture at the Stadium of Light.

Fletcher's return to form gives national team boss Gordon Strachan a decent selection headache ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2016 qualifier against Georgia at Ibrox.

Does he pick him to start up front for Scotland ahead of Everton forward Steven Naismith in the Euro 2016 qualifier? Or does he play both?

But Maloney, who is playing regularly for Wigan again after recovering from hip surgery, is just delighted that 27-year-old frontman Fletcher is back to his best.

He said: "Steven had an injury at the end of last season to his Achilles tendon. But he was really, really good in training at our last gathering for the game in Germany.

"I am a big fan of Steven. When you train with him you see how good a player he is.

"He is certainly one of our best players and one of our best strikers, so I am glad to have him back in the squad.

"When it comes to the all-round skills a forward needs, Steven has pretty much got everything. He does not have much of a weakness in any area.

"Steven is a natural goalscorer. And as we all saw with the way he set up Ikechi Anya's goal against Germany, he can see a pass.

"His movement is very good. There is not much weakness in his game.

"I know he has been in and out at Sunderland this season but when Steven comes away with Scotland he realises how much his fellow players rate him and how thankful we are he is in the squad again."
