WHILE Gordon Strachan's Scotland quietly went about their business yesterday on the banks of the Clyde at Mar Hall, opponents Germany enjoyed a slightly more high-profile workout.

Ahead of their challenge match tomorrow night in Dusseldorf against Argentina - the team they defeated in the World Cup final on July 13 - Joachim Low's world champions were put through their paces in front of 45,000 screaming supporters at the Esprit Arena.

Many fans were getting the first glimpse of their Brazilian heroes since their triumph in South America.

Tickets for the training session sold out well in advance as thousands queued up outside the ground for hours, and German general manager Oliver Bierhoff admitted the players were delighted to give something back to the nation.

He said: "It was important to the players and all of us that we present ourselves to the fans again separately.

"The public training for us is a nice way to thank the fans for their great support.

"It was great, as they have accompanied us during the time in Brazil, and the reception in Berlin was just overwhelming."

Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil could be fit for Sunday's showdown, but is unlikely to face the Argentinians.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, among the candidates to replace Philipp Lahm as captain, said: "We need to hit the ground running. We need to have a good match against Argentina to prepare for Scotland because the team will be slightly different.

"It is very important for us to start our qualifiers with a win over Scotland on Sunday."
