RYAN GIGGS has been ruled out of the running to become Manchester United's next permanent boss.

The Old Trafford legend has been handed the reins temporarily after the sacking of David Moyes.

Giggs, a graduate of the famed 'Class of '92', has made more appearances (962) than any other player in the club's 136-year history.

The 40-year-old Welshman, who started taking his coaching badges earlier this season, has 13 Premier League winner's medals to his name and is revered by United fans across the globe.

But it is understood the United board would prefer to appoint a more experienced manager to drag them out of the hole Moyes left them in.

Club officials hope the midfielder will form part of the backroom staff for the Scot's full-time successor.

Meanwhile, former United captain Roy Keane lambasted the current squad and the club hierarchy after Moyes' disappointing reign.

He declared: "He should have been given more time. Some of the players should be ashamed of themselves, they let him down."

Asked how much responsibility belonged to Ferguson for picking Moyes, Keane added: "He put his name forward, but the club have to make a decision so you can't be critical of Alex.

"Seventh in the league is disappointing but you need people around you and I don't think Moyes had that, certainly from the players."
