Glasgow City said goodbye to arguably their greatest ever player Suzanne Lappin in style yesterday as they thumped Inverness 12-0.

And Lappin capped her farewell in style by grabbing one of the goals in the rout.

It was always going to be an emotional day for the 28-year-old who joined City at 16 years old.

And the club's all-time top goalscorer played out her final minutes for the Champions as accomplished as any other as she controlled the midfield in a game City dominated from start to finish.

Susan Fairlie netted four and other goals came from Lauren McMurchie, Courtney Whyte, Abbi Grant, Erin Cuthbert, Kerry Montgomery, Rhonda Jones and Leanne Ross.

But the biggest cheer of the day came as Lappin netted with a trademark header in the second half, ten minutes before being substituted to a standing ovation from the City faithful.

City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, "We asked the players to start at a good tempo but I never thought it would be as good a half time score as it was.

"We moved the ball really well with great pace and energy. We are delighted to get the victory and a clean sheet and it was a great way to send Sue off as she officially ends her career at the club, with a double figures win and that she got on the score sheet. We now look forward to Wednesday night at home against Spartans for the game in hand and hope we can close the gap between ourselves and the teams at the top of the table."

Glasgow City take on Spartans on Wednesday, 7.45pm at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie. Entry is £5 adults, £3 concessions, U16s free.
