Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has spent more time plotting the downfall of Gibraltar than he did on the opening European Championship group game against World champions Germany.

The Euro 2016 qualifiers began in Dortmund when a Thomas Muller double gave the hosts a 2-1 win.

But while Scotland are expected to roll over the top of the Group D whipping boys tomorrow night, Strachan believes this game requires as much thought and preparation as the match against this summer's World Cup winners.

"I think back to the way we have trained and the hours we've put in, I think we've put in as many hours on Gibraltar as we did on the Germany game," said the Scotland manager.

"Hour wise, it is as much here as we gave to Germany - maybe even more.

"We started doing this on Monday, down tools on Tuesday and Wednesday for Northern Ireland and then started again last night."

There are two significant decisions for Strachan to make; who takes the armband with both Scott Brown and Darren Fletcher fully fit, and who is given the nod to take the place between the sticks.

Three fully fit goalkeepers at the top of their game and two leaders in the form of Fletcher and Brown have given Strachan a choice to make.

The Scotland manager has already made his decision - which the squad will learn tomorrow morning.

And part of the reason for keeping his cards close to his chest is in order not to disappoint those who won't start against Gibraltar.

"I've already made them," said Strachan when probed about his decisions. "It's fine. The team will know tomorrow. But everybody has had the same time and attention.

"We worked this morning and another group will go out and do exactly the same thing, so that everybody gets the same time and attention and everyone has to concentrate.

"I used to feel you knew by how long you spend defending against moves that it wasn't going to be you. But because they've done so well, part of it is I like to keep my options open until the point where I have to pick a team.

"You want to give them all the same time and attention, so that they feel part of it."

And the Scotland manager is wary of tomorrow being something of a damp squib, given Scotland's history against teams they are expected to beat and beat well.

Gibraltar have brought in a new manager after shipping 21 goals and scoring none in their opening four games, and Strachan is coy about the pressure on Scotland to chalk up a cricket score.

"We want to make sure we do not to patronise anybody or disrespect them," he said.

"We try to get a nice balance. We do that with most sides, but more so with this game. There are a lot of teams have had games like this and found it difficult, and other teams have found it a lot easier."
