HUGH DALLAS has been urged to make a shock refereeing comeback as Greek football reaches new lows...at the age of 57!

Football in Greece has been suspended entirely following violence at Sunday's derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos, as well as a brawl between club officials at a board meeting on Tuesday.

Rocks and missiles were thrown at the Olympiakos players and officials and there was a punch-up between directors of the Athens teams.

Former SFA top ref Dallas is still in Greece as Chief Refereeing Officer, although he stood down from making refereeing appointments recently.

And Panathinaikos president Giannis Alafouzos reckons Dallas should dust down his whistle again to restore order among officials at games.

Alafouzos said: "I would have chosen Hugh Dallas to referee the match between ourselves and Olympiakos.

"We need referees who are respected and will take action because this situation cannot continue."

Dallas, who refereed at the 1998 and 2002 World Cup finals - he was fourth official to Pierluigi Collina in Japan and South Korea - and retired as a ref in 2005, was sacked as SFA Head of Referee Development in 2010 after an email scandal.

He was appointed to his Greek role after pleas from clubs for a foreign official to take on the role following several match-fixing scandals in recent seasons.
