IKECHI ANYA has waited 17 months to sample the Hampden roar ...

even if it was a bit timid.

However, the Scotland winger insists it doesn't matter where the national team plays - as long as they keep WINNING.

Anya's debut in dark blue came back in October, 2013, in a 2-0 victory over Croatia at Hampden.

With the iconic stadium being out of use due to the Commonwealth Games, the Watford winger has lined up at home for his country at both Ibrox and Parkhead in victories over Georgia and Republic of Ireland respectively.

Wednesday's 1-0 friendly win over Northern Ireland in front of a modest 20,000 crowd symbolised Scotland's Hampden homecoming after the goalless draw with the USA in November, 2013.

And while Anya explained playing at the famous Glasgow ground again was a special moment, he told SportTimes the home venue of the national team is of little importance to him, just the result.

"I've played at Hampden before against Croatia," he explained. "We have been away from there for a little while, but when the national anthem starts to play and you hear the crowd singing, it's a great feeling. It's one you want to experience over and over again.

"I've been quite lucky. When we played at Ibrox and Parkhead we won and the twice I've played at Hampden we've won! As long as we keep on winning I don't have a preference where we play."

Reflecting on the victory over Northern Ireland, he added: "It was a good exercise. In the first half we played a lot better than we did in the second half, and created a lot more chances. We should have been a couple of goals up and I should have scored.

"But it was a good exercise to get us back as a team again, and it will stand us in good stead for Gibraltar."
