KENNY Miller represented Scotland on 69 occasions in his distinguished international career.

And he scored vital goals in European Championship and World Cup qualifiers against the likes of the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Norway and Ukraine.

However, the Rangers striker is in no doubt, none whatsoever, about what the standout moment of his time playing for his country was.

For the 35-year-old rates netting against England in the international friendly at Wembley last year as the highlight of his playing days.

Having won every major competition in the Scottish game, that says much about the importance of netting in the the oldest fixture in football.

The hitman struck early in the second half with the score tied 1-1 after Theo Walcott had cancelled out an opener by James Morrison.

He brought down an Alan Hutton cross on his chest, side-stepped Gary Cahill and then turned and rifled a low left foot shot beyond the outstretched Joe Hart.

Miller will watch the rematch between Gordon Strachan's side and Roy Hodgson's team at a packed Celtic Park tomorrow night with a twinge of jealousy.

"Scoring against England was great and a fantastic way to bring the curtain down on my international career," he recalled today.

"It was a wonderful occasion. It was the first time the two teams had met in 15 years, since the second leg of the Euro 2000 play-off.

"It was also at Wembley, which is probably the best stadium I have played in, and was against a fantastic team.

"It was a great night for everyone involved and I thought we were very unfortunate not to at least come away with a draw from it."

Miller continued: "I thought we were superb all night. To play like we did and take the lead twice was wonderful for all of our fans who had travelled down the road. "To get the goal was nothing short of a dream come true.

"It doesn't get any better than scoring a goal for Scotland against England at Wembley.

"It was just a pity it didn't come in the last minute of the match and give us the victory we were so desperate for. But it was still a special moment.

"It was a cracking goal too. It was definitely one of the better goals that I managed to score for Scotland. To be honest, I loved the whole experience.

"I have no doubt the boys who take to the field for Scotland tomorrow night will be exactly the same. Hopefully, though, they can get the victory."

Miller, the sixth highest scorer in Scotland history, decided to retire from international football shortly after that memorable evening following a chat with Strachan.

He was playing for MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps at that stage and felt the time was right to make way for a younger player and build towards Euro 2016.

The former Hibs, Wolves, Celtic, Derby County and Cardiff City centre forward has been impressed with how the national team has performed in their qualifying campaign.

And he is hopeful the current crop of Scotland players will be able to qualify for the France in two years time and end an 18 year absence from the finals of a major tournament.

He also believes that, despite the absence of the injured Steven Fletcher, they will have no difficulty emulating his feat and hitting the target against the Auld Enemy.

He said: "We may have lost against England last year, but we took an awful lot of positives out of the game. I think we have pushed on as a team since then.

"We have done well in the Euro 2016 qualifiers we have played in so far and are in a good position in the table after the 1-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland.

"Scotland certainly have players who know where the back of the net is with Steven Naismith, Shaun Maloney, Chris Martin, Stevie May and James Morrison in the squad."

Miller added: "I am sure the Tartan Army will turn out in force for the game against England and will give Scotland a huge lift with their backing. They can be like a 12th man for us.

"The boys will all be on a high after the result against Ireland on Friday night and will be determined to make it two wins out of two for us. I am sure they can do it.

"We were unlucky not to get a result down in Wembley last year so have a great chance of doing so this time around now we are at home.

"I will be cheering on the boys like everyone else in the country."
