Vincent Kompany believes it was a case of "job done" as Manchester City returned to winning ways and kept their Premier League title hopes alive with a 3-1 victory over relegation-threatened West Brom at the Etihad Stadium.

Pablo Zabaleta handed City the lead as he headed in after Sergio Aguero's shot was sent back out by Ben Foster with just three minutes gone.

Aguero claimed their second with a powerful effort from just outside the 18-yard box to beat a diving Foster for his 27th goal of the season.

Graham Dorrans sent the ball past Joe Hart to reduce the deficit for the visitors, but Martin Demichelis added City's third with a close-range finish after 36 minutes.

Kompany declared: "We had some very good starts in the game, so we'll take the positives out of it and take it with us into the next four games."

City boss Manuel Pellegrini claimed after City were held to a surprise 2-2 home draw by bottom markers Sunderland on Wednesday that his men had still had the disappointment of their 3-2 defeat at table-toppers Liverpool from the previous Sunday on their minds.

The results against Sunderland and Liverpool dealt significant blows to City's title challenge.

They remain third in the table after closing the gap to six points behind leaders Liverpool - second-placed Chelsea just one point better off - with City still having one game in hand over their rivals.

But Kompany remembered their win two seasons ago, where they stole the title in the last minute of the season.

He added: "We can still remember what happened two years ago, so we take motivation out of it. The most important thing is for us to get back to our best form.

"If we can take that into our next four games, anything can happen."
