SCOTLAND still have the firepower to gun down Belgium - despite the retirement of leading goalscorer Kenny Miller.

That was the message from Stuart McCall today as the national team finalised their preparations for the meeting with the Group A leaders.

Former Celtic and Rangers striker Miller called time on his international career after winning 69 caps for his country last month.

The 33-year-old, who netted a wonder goal in his last game against England at Wembley, will be badly missed by Scotland.

With 18 goals to his name he was the sixth-most successful marksman in our history after Kenny Dalglish, Denis Law, Hughie Gallagher, Laurie Reilly and Ally McCoist.

But Scotland coach McCall believes manager Gordon Strachan has a host of in-form hit men to choose from at Hampden on Friday night.

And he reckons Jordan Rhodes, Leigh Griffiths, Ross McCormack or Shaun Maloney can all stake a claim for a start with a star showing.

He said: "The form of our strikers has been good recently. The lads are playing well and are scoring as well.

"In the last week, Jordan Rhodes has banged four in.

"Since being called into the squad, he got two in the League Cup and he got two in the league on Saturday. He will be feeling good about himself.

"Leigh Griffiths got another goal for Wolves at the weekend having got the winner from the penalty spot before that.

"Ross McCormack is doing well and scoring goals at Leeds. Shaun Maloney is also doing well at Wigan.

"It is disappointing that Kenny has decided to retire, but we have got lads who are desperate to get the shirt and show what they can do.

"They have all hit the goal trail this season and they are all in decent form."

Meanwhile, Motherwell manager McCall has appealed to the Tartan Army to be a twelfth man for Scotland in the World Cup qualifier.

He believes the home supporters can help drown out the backing for the visitors and cheer them to a famous result. He said: "I think Belgium are bringing six thousand fans so that will add an edge to the game.

"Everyone has to muck in; the players, the coaches, the back-room staff and the fans. I am sure the atmosphere will be good."
