JIM BAXTER was regarded by many Rangers supporters as the best player ever to pull on a Light Blue jersey, but he also had some memorable performances for Scotland during his career...

PETER (Cardonald) - Can you tell me about Jim Baxter's football career?

Jim was born in Hill Of Beath, Fife, in 1939. He signed for Raith Rovers in April 1957 from Junior team Crossgates Primrose.

He spent three years at Raith Rovers before signing for Rangers in June 1960.

Baxter played for Rangers from 1960 to 1965 where he won three Scottish League Championships and a Scottish Cup winner's medal.

He was transferred to Sunderland in 1965 and then moved to Nottingham Forest in 1967.

He returned to Rangers in 1969 before retiring from football at the age of 31.

In his career he won 34 Scotland caps and scored three goals and is probably best remembered for his tantalising display against England at Wembley in 1967.

BOB CLARK (Cathcart) - Can you settle a matrimonial dispute? My wife says that when Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup Final (late 1950s) it was the first time they won the trophy. I say Celtic had won it at least once before. Who is right?

You can claim bragging rights in your house. The 7-1 victory over Rangers took place in 1957-58.

Celtic first won the trophy the previous season, 1956-57. They defeated Partick Thistle 3-0 in a replay, after the original final was drawn 0-0.

STEPHEN (Cambuslang) - When I was a 10-year-old boy in 1964, I remember watching a select team play an English club at Hampden Park. Can you tell me who the sides were and the match details?

The match was a Glasgow Charity Cup tie between a Glasgow select 11 and Tottenham Hotspur. The game was played on August 5, 1964, at Hampden Park.

Before the game the players and spectators observed a minute's silence in memory of the Spurs and Scotland legend John White who had tragically died two weeks earlier.

In front of almost 59,000 fans, Glasgow won the match 4-2 with goals from Baxter (penalty), McParland, Chalmers and Henderson. The Spurs scorers were Robertson and Saul.
