JIMMY Johnstone was voted Celtic's Greatest-Ever Player, but he also played with another Celtic during his long and highly-successful career...

DEREK CALLAGHAN (Lanark) - Could you settle a wee dispute? Which of the Blantyre junior clubs, Vics or Celtic, did the legendary Jimmy Johnstone play?

Jimmy played for Blantyre Celtic for two separate spells. Early in his career he was farmed out there, in 1961-62, to gain experience.

In the close-season of 1980, he re-registered as a Junior for the same club.

Incidentally, Jimmy's team-mate in the Lisbon Lions, Billy McNeill, played for Blantyre Vics in the late Fifties.

DAVID HENDERSON (Milngavie) - A lot has been made about Falkirk having to wait a long time between their last league game and them playing in this year's Scottish Cup final. When Rangers won the European Cup-Winners' Cup in 1972, they also had a longish wait. Didn't they arrange a friendly with St Mirren for some match practice?

Rangers last league match was on May 1, 1972, which was a 4-2 home win against Ayr United.

On May 16, Rangers played St Mirren at Love Street for the Paisley Charity Cup. Rangers won the game 5-2.

The Rangers scorers were Alfie Conn (3), Andy Penman (penalty) and Alex McDonald.

Then, on May 24, the Gers went on to win the European Cup-Winners' Cup with a 3-2 victory over Moscow Dynamo in Barcelona.

I. SMITH (Glasgow) - It was sad to note the recent death of Scotland internationalist John Hewie, who was born in South Africa to Scottish parents. Can you tell me how many South African-born players have represented the full Scotland international team?

John Hewie was one of only two South African-born players who represented the full Scotland international team.

He played mainly as a full-back for Charlton Athletic. He made a total of 19 appearances for Scotland, featuring in the World Cup finals in Sweden in 1958.

The other player was Sandy Bell, who was born in Cape Town.

He played at left-half for Manchester United and was their first Scotland internationalist. His only cap was against Ireland in 1912.
