THE Old Firm have played many nail-biting cup matches over the years, and one which will be remembered more by older Celtic fans was a League Cup tie in 1967...

RON SMITH (Paisley) - Can you jog my memory? Not long after Celtic won the European Cup, they played Rangers in a League Cup game at Celtic Park. Rangers were winning 1-0 with 15 minutes left. They then missed a penalty and Celtic went on to win 3-1. Could you tell me who missed the spot-kick and who scored the goals?

The tie was played on the August 30, 1967. Willie Henderson put Rangers ahead early on in the game.

In 76 minutes Henderson was fouled by John Clark inside the box. Kai Johansen took the penalty but struck the bar.

Late goals from Willie Wallace, Bobby Murdoch and Bobby Lennox gave Celtic the victory.

JACK WEATSON (Larkhall) - Could you please tell me what was the last match Rangers played in the old Glasgow Charity Cup?

Rangers' last match in the Glasgow Merchants' Charity Cup (to give it its proper name) was the final of the 1959-60 season.

Played at Hampden on May 11, 1960, the Gers defeated Partick Thistle 2-0, with goals from Millar and Brand.

Just 8,296 fans watched the match.

ALLY RONALD (Greenock) - Could you tell me how Scotland fared in the last-ever Home Internationals in 1984?

We had mixed fortunes. In the first game we lost 2-0 to Northern Ireland in Belfast.

Then followed two games at Hampden, a 2-1 victory over Wales and a 1-1 draw with England.

All four countries ended the competition with three points. Northern Ireland finished top of the table on goal difference and were given the trophy to keep. Scotland finished in bottom place!

JOHN GARRITY (Glasgow) - Can you tell me the first game the now-defunct Third Lanark played? Also could you provide the score, scorers and team for Third Lanark in that game?

The first game Thirds played was a Scottish Cup tie away against Clydesdale on November 8, 1873, at Titwood.

The result was a 1-1 draw and the team was: J. Haswell, J. Glass, J. Hunter, J. Donald, W. McOnie, W. Dick, J. Stewart, W. Miller, J. Laurence, J. Wilson and A. Drennan.

The goalscorer was W. Dick.
