BOBBY LENNOX is regarded by many Celtic fans as one of their greatest-ever players.

He played in two European Cup finals with the club and is their second-highest scorer with 273 goals in 571 games...

JIM (Royston) - My dad remembers a tournament called the Drybrough Cup in the 1970s. He said that he watched his Celtic hero, Bobby Lennox, demolish Dunfermline at Parkhead in this eight-team tournament. Can you give me the details of the match.

The Drybrough Cup was for the four highest scorers in Division 1 and the four highest scorers in Division 2, and was played pre-season.

Celtic beat Dunfermline 6-1 on Saturday, July 28, 1973. Bobby Lennox scored four goals with Kenny Dalglish and Brian McLaughlin adding to Celtic's tally.

Mackie scored Dunfermline's consolation goal.

FRANK (Queensferry) - Could you settle an argument regarding Ian Black's father. Did he play for Celtic?

It is assumed you mean Ian Black, currently with Rangers. His father, also Ian, was signed on a provisional form by Celtic in August, 1976, from Tranent Juniors.

There is no record of him appearing in the first team before moving to Hearts in July, 1977.

Ian left to join Hibernian in June, 1980, before moving to East Fife in September, 1980, then quickly on to Berwick Rangers in November of that year.

He remained at Berwick until June, 1982, moving back to Junior football with Ormiston Primrose where he is last recorded in season 1985/86.

K. DYKES (Stewarton) - Scotland played the USA last November at Hampden Park. I have been told that Scotland played the USA, whilst on tour, just before the outbreak of the Second World War. Scotland won a trophy during the tour. Can you tell me about this?

The SFA sent a touring party over to the United States and Canada from May 6 to June 30, 1939. Scotland played 14 matches on the tour, winning 13 of those games, scoring 72 goals.

The trophy to which you refer is the PETO Cup, played against the American League Stars on June 18 at the Polo Grounds, New York, in front of a 14,000 crowd.

The cup was donated by a New York businessman and the Scots won 4-2 after extra time.

The PETO Cup is currently on display at the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Park.
