THERE have been many memorable Old Firm games over the years, but a match at Ibrox in 1988 will be well remembered by Rangers supporters...

DOUG (Milngavie) - Can you remind me who scored in Rangers 5-1 defeat of Celtic in 1988?

The game was at Ibrox on August 27, 1988. Frank McAvennie opened the scoring for Celtic after only five minutes.

Ally McCoist and Ray Wilkins replied for Rangers to give them a 2-1 half-time lead.

Further goals from McCoist, Drinkell and Walters secured a 5-1 victory for Graeme Souness's men.

H. McGIBBON (Possil) - Following your question in last week's issue regarding Jimmy Delaney, can you confirm he is the only player to win international caps for Scotland before and after the Second World War?

We believe he is. Jimmy Delaney's football career spanned an amazing 24 years.

He started off at Celtic as a 19-year-old and his career ended with Elgin City as a 43-year-old.

He won 15 caps for Scotland. His first cap was against Wales on October 5, 1935, and his final game was against England on April 10, 1948.

JIM (Ruchill) - Did the Partick Thistle League Cup-winning team of 1971 ever play a select team at Firhill about 10 years later?

Yes they did. On Sunday, October 12, 1980, the League Cup-winning team played a Partick Thistle select team which included Davie Wilson of Rangers and Andy Ritchie of Morton. Remarkably the final score was 6-6.

THE PUBLIC BAR PUNTERS (East Kilbride) - This is a rather different information request. A guy in my local insists that two former international players (one English and one Scottish) have very unusual middle names. He maintains that a well-known English player has Ivanhoe as his middle name, while the former Scotland star has Fortescue. He is refusing to tell us who they are and is trying to get us to place a bet. He is a well-known joker - is he having a laugh or is it true?

He may be having a laugh, but his information is, in fact, correct.

Emile Heskey was born in Leicester on January 11, 1978, and given a full name of Emile William Ivanhoe Heskey.

He had a very successful career playing for Leicester City, Liverpool, Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa. He was capped 62 times for England.

The splendidly-named Scot is Andrew Fortescue Mullen Gray, who was born in Glasgow on November 30, 1955.

Better known as Andy Gray, he played for Dundee United, Aston Villa, Wolves, Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Rangers. At international level, Andy played 20 times for Scotland.
