GORDON STRACHAN did not give Scott Fox a first-team game while the pair were at Celtic.

But the Scotland boss is about to more than make up for that today by calling the man now keeping goal for Partick Thistle into his squad for the friendlies against USA and Norway later this month.

With Allan McGregor injured, David Marshall and Matt Gilks will compete for the No.1 shirt in these games, with 26-year-old Jags stopper Fox their back-up.

Fox began his career at Celtic and had spells at Queen of the South and Dundee before joining Partick Thistle in 2010, winning the club's player of the year award at the end of the 2010-11 season.

He has had an impressive campaign in the Firhill club's first season back in the SPFL Premiership, in which they have the league's sixth-best defensive record ahead of tonight's game against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Although never previously selected at full international level, Fox was in the Scotland squad which reached the final of the Uefa Under-19 European Championship in Poland in 2006.
