SCOTLAND'S kids will enjoy a great experience when they travel to play in a prestigious tournament in Mexico next week, insists SFA youth chief Scot Gemmill.

The talented youngsters will jet off to Central America to battle it out with Honduras, Ecuador and hosts Mexico in Group A of the 16-team tournament.

If they qualify from that group in the Copa Mexico tournament, they could also face the likes of Argentina, Brazil, USA or Costa Rica if they progress - with the first Scotland game against Honduras on August 2.

And Gemmill - who led the Scots to the semi-finals of the European Championship Under-17s in Malta earlier this year - reckons the youngsters will pick up invaluable experience.

He said: "This is a brilliant tournament for Scotland to be part of and I am sure there will be benefits for the players further down the line.

"Playing against teams like Honduras, Ecuador and Mexico will provide the boys with new challenges.

"But most of them have played a lot of international football already and that experience is gradually building up.

"There are other factors that the players will need to get used to such as the travelling, jet lag, altitude and heat which are all unusual, but it will be a great experience for all of them and I hope they enjoy it."
