Scotland clocked up a third successive clean sheet last night as they rounded off a year of transition with a fortuitous win over Norway.

Gordon Strachan's side were under pressure for much of the evening with former Celtic keeper David Marshall kept busy with a string of saves, mostly from Marcus Pedersen, but survived to get another win under their belts.

It is a result that bodes well as Scotland await February's draw for the Euro 2016 Championships.

Marshall underlined his credentials last night and the stopper was delighted with his clean sheet.

"As the second half went on I thought we got a bit more comfortable," he said.

"They had a few chances but you are always going to get that in away games.

"Scott [Brown] has put the goal away and we are on a decent run at the minute so we have the confidence when we go ahead to see games out.

"We are on a good run of form and the clean sheets have been great. We probably didn't deserve the win, but the way the boys hung on in the second half it was probably justified."

Brown netted the third goal of his senior international career with a low drive from the edge of the box after an interchange with Charlie Adam.

The Celtic captain was fortunate to have escaped sanction for an earlier kick at Vegard Forren but was happy with the victory.

"The lads fought and battled," he said.

"We got a result and that's what we came for. It was one of those that was just hit and hope and it took a bit of a deflection but it went in the back of the net and that's the main thing."

Now he is keen to see what February's draw brings.

"We are looking forward to it, given the form we're in," he said.
