SCOTTISH FA President Campbell Ogilvie has missed out on a place on Uefa's executive committee.

The former Rangers secretary was one of 12 candidates for seven seats at the top table but, alongside Welshman Trefor Lloyd Hughes, he did not receive enough votes to be elected.

Former Arsenal and Croatia striker Davor Suker and goalkeeper Boris Mikhailov, once of Reading and Bulgaria, were two of the candidates to be successful.

Ogilvie may have missed out on his Uefa seat, but there will be British representation in the corridors of power at the top of the game after former Manchester United director David Gill was selected as Britain's Fifa vice-president.

Gill, who is currently vice-chairman of the FA, received 43 of 54 votes of the Uefa member nations to beat Lloyd Hughes and will replace Northern Ireland's Jim Boyce in the role as he gets set to serve a four-year term.

The 57-year-old is highly regarded within the game following his successful spell at Old Trafford, and FA chairman Greg Dyke called on him to be part of the 'awkward squad' on Fifa, adding: 'He has a strong background in finance, so if there are financial questions he will know what to ask and what to look for.

"There is a feeling that there have been too many acolytes and not enough people asking difficult questions and ensuring that decisions are taken in a transparent, ethical and business-like manner."

Gill will take up office in May, and said: "I've always viewed my role at Manchester United and then the FA and the Premier League to ask relevant and appropriate questions. I don't think that is being awkward - that's just doing the job.

"I'm not being elected just to get another blazer with four letters on it, I'm trying to play a role and assist my other colleagues from Uefa and some very good people from around the world."

The main event in Vienna was the vote for the Uefa presidency as Michel Platini was re-elected for a third four-year term.

The Frenchman has previously won votes in 2007 and 2011, and has now been chosen to lead the governing body for another spell.

Platini said: "Thank you - thank you very much. Thank you for your trust and your kind support. This means more to me than you can possibly imagine.

"I am proud to be your team-mate, proud to be the captain of this winning team and proud of our achievements. And I am excited to be taking on the challenges that await us over the next four years.

"I know that I can count on you. And you know that you can count on me.

"It is the closeness of that bond between us that makes us strong and allows us to take these bold and courageous decisions - decisions which always pay off."
